Great Chesterford 28th July 2017
Concerned residents from several parishes gathered at Great Chesterford to unveil StopNUGV campaign banners in an effort to draw attention to the proposed new town development. The event was covered by ITV Anglia.
North Uttlesford Garden Village will cover the hills to the north east of Great Chesterford with 5,000 houses. Residents of all the surrounding parishes including those in South Cambridgeshire, have raised concerns about the affect on already congested roads and pressure on schools and GP surgeries. The development may also have serious implications for the River Cam and downstream flooding. When completed the New Town will cover an area roughly the same as Saffron Walden, the largest town in the Uttlesford district and one of the finest preserved examples of a medieval English market town.
Uttlesford District Council is under mounting criticism for the way it has introduced this proposed new town into its district plan and the lack of information and time provided for consultation.
